The band was formed in 1999 in Huntington Beach, California with original members M Shadows, Zacky Vengeance, The Rev and Matt Wendt. M Shadows came up with the name as a reference to the story of Cain and Abel from The Bible, although it is not a religious band. Avenged Sevenfold consist of M. Shadows as  lead vocals, keyboards, guitars, synth,organ, Synyster Gates as lead guitar, backing vocals, piano, keys, synth, Zacky Vengeance as rhythm guitar, backing vocals, acoustic guitars, piano, JohnnyChrist as bass and backing vocals and Arin Ilejay  as drummer. Opening of hotel marks Tune Hotels new brand standards

 

Ipoh, 18 April 2012 – Tune Hotel Ipoh was officially opened yesterday and guest of honour, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Ong Hong Peng, Secretary General of Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, launched the branded value hotel chain in Perak. This marked the 11^th Tune Hotel in Malaysia and represents the global chain’s first hotel featuring the brand new redesign of its Brand Standards. WWF-Malaysia and Microsoft Malaysia encourage Malaysians to “Live Green” beyond Earth Hour with mobile application

Built on Windows Phone platform, the app known as “Earth Hour Malaysia” was created to continuously cultivate an eco-friendly lifestyle among Malaysians

Kuala Lumpur, 17 April, 2012 –Fresh from the success of Earth Hour 2012, WWF-Malaysia (World Wide Fund for Nature-Malaysia), in collaboration with Microsoft Malaysia (“Microsoft”) and Microsoft Student Partner, Pun Soong Teck (also known as TC Pun), have developed an environmental mobile phone application called “Earth Hour Malaysia” on Windows Phone as an effort to continuously encourage Malaysians to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle. The app not only creates environmental awareness but also serves as a platform for Malaysians to pledge their support towards WWF-Malaysia’s initiatives in sustaining environmental conservation.

“WWF-Malaysia commends Microsoft for bringing ICT closer to peoples’ lives. This mobile app creates and engages a community of environmental advocates through this platform,” said WWF-Malaysia Executive Director/CEO Dato’ Dr Dionysius Sharma, who hopes that the Earth Hour Malaysia app will boost support for Malaysians to “Live Green”.

“Since Earth Hour 2011, WWF-Malaysia has been urging everyone across the nation to take Earth Hour beyond the hour by signing up at wwf.org.my and pledging to “Live Green: One switch at a time” towards living in a more sustainable manner. Since then until Earth Hour 2012, 20,000 people have pledged to “Live Green” and we hope that even more will do so between now and Earth Hour 2013. With the Earth Hour mobile app on Windows Phone, we now have another platform for more people to voice their pledge and strengthen our efforts to protect our living planet,” he continued.

This effort also coincides with Dato’ Dr Sharma’s personal Earth Hour 2012 “I Will if You Will” pledge to upload a video of himself singing a green-themed song onto YouTube if 10,000 people sign up to “Live Green” at wwf.org.my from Earth Hour 2012 to World Oceans Day on 8th June.

“Platforms such as this make people and organisations more aware of the importance of environmental conservation, enabling them to take the first step towards a more energy efficient and sustainable lifestyle in the longer term,” concluded Dato’ Dr Sharma.

In addition to creating environmental awareness, the Earth Hour Malaysia app allows Malaysians to pledge their support to “Live Green” and adopt a sustainable lifestyle. To keep the momentum towards Earth Hour 2013, the Earth Hour app will encourage people to adopt daily conservation practices that help the planet every day beyond just the initial one hour – through habits such as switching off lights that are not in use or shutting down their computers instead of allowing it to just go into “sleep mode”. Windows Phone users will also be able conveniently track other Malaysian environmental enthusiasts who have committed to “Live Green” through a visual diagram powered by Bing Maps.

“At Microsoft, we are constantly looking for ways to share our expertise and do our part to address important social issues such as environmental conservation. Information technology (IT) is a key tool that can help address these issues and we believe that it is our responsibility to use our capabilities and solutions to help make this world a better place,” said Peter Tam, Director of Local Software Innovations, Microsoft Malaysia.

It displays how technology can contribute to environmental conservation and we are confident that our collaboration will encourage Malaysians to contribute to a more sustainable planet.”

The Earth Hour Malaysia mobile phone app was built and developed on a system powered by Windows Azure, an open and flexible cloud platform that enables developers to quickly build, deploy and manage apps across a global network of Microsoft-managed datacentres using any language, tool or framework. Windows Azure, which is Microsoft’s Cloud computing Platform-As-A-Service, allows developers to scale up their systems according to the number of users in real time, and this inevitably supports effort to sustain and preserve the environment, by reducing digital footprint.

Those who aren’t using a Windows Phone device can still be a part of this pledge, through an interactive Earth Hour web application running on Windows Azure at http://MyEarthHourws.cloudapp.net. This application was developed by another Microsoft Student Partner named Ooi Keng Siang from Penang.

The Earth Hour Malaysia app can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace, which now features more than 70,000 applications.

AirAsia ABL Season 3, Game 45: Patriots Break Heat's Winning Streak

Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig City, Philippines, 14^th March 2012 – A 10-0 run early in the fourth quarter lifted theAirAsia Philippine Patriots over the hot-streaking Saigon Heat. Patriots beat the Heat 73-57 for their ninth win of the season.

Playing without their leading scorer Anthony Johnson, Patriots’ local players stepped up in this game. Francis “Kiko” Adriano lead the Patriots in scoring with 15 points, Aldrech Ramos had 11 points and Nakiea Miller added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Midway through the second quarter, It looked like the Heat could repeat their performace from last weekend in their win over the Dragons. Jonathan Jones made a field goal to make it 30-25 for the Heat with 4:18 left before halftime. But Rob Wainwright answered by hitting a jumper and Warren Ybanez made a three-point shot to start a 9-0 run. Patriots took a 34-30 lead going into halftime.

Before going to the final quarter, the Heat was only down 45-47 after Jonathan Jones hit a shot with 01:09 left and this was the closest the Heat get to Patriots for the rest of the game.

The Patriots started the final locking up on defense. They held the Heat scoreless in the first 5 minutes 34 seconds as they made a 10-0 run to stop the Heat’s winning-streak at three games.

Jonathan Jones led all scoring with 28 points and 13 rebounds while Jahmar Thorpe added 15 points and 15 rebounds. Thorpe also had 8 of Heat’s 19 turnovers in the game. Noy Javier, who was on fire in the last game,couldn’t carry his performance to this game. Javier missed 7 of his 9 three point attempts. Other than Jones and Thorpe, the rest of the Heat players only combined for 14 points.

The Patriots will play their third-straight road game this Saturday the 17^th of March 2012 at MABA Stadium to face the Westports Malaysia Dragons. The Saigon Heat will also play on Saturday as they host the Indonesia Warriors at Tan Binh Stadium.

AirAsia ABL Season 3, Game 48: Patriots Stage Fourth Quarter Comeback to Get 10th Win Over Dragons

17^th March 2012 MABA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Anthony Johnson, Nakiea Miller and Angelus Raymundo combined for 22 points in the final quarter to help the AirAsia Philippine Patriots make a come from behind 90-87 win over the Westports Malaysia Dragons at MABA Stadium this afternoon.

Anthony Johnson led all scoring with 34 points, Nakiea Miller had a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, Angelus Raymundo, who hit all of his six shots, added 12 points for the Patriots.

The Dragons’ top rebounder Brian Williams had to sit out this game due to an ankle injury. Although still recovering from his own minor heel injury, Dragons were able to enlist the help of Donald Little as Williams’ temporary replacement. Little completed his debut with the Dragons with 11 points.

Patrick Cabahug was a big spark for the Dragons in the first quarter. Cabahug came into the game midway in the first quarter to start a 13-1 run.  Cabahug scored 9 points in that stretch. But at the 02:09 mark in this quarter, their leading scorer Tiras Wade had to leave the game because of a hamstring injury.

Eventhough the Dragons are playing without Wade, they were leading by as much as 16 points when Donald Little made a basket to make it 65-49 with 5:11 left in the third quarter. Then Johnson heated up by scoring 11 points in the last four minutes of the third quarter to help the Patriots cut their deficit to 64-71 going into the fourth quarter.

The Patriots started the final quarter on a 17-3 run. Nakiea Miller made a free throw with 4:28 left on the clock to give the Patriots their biggest lead in the game at 81-74. The Dragons were able to answer with back to back three point shots from John Ng and Patrick Cabahug.

Nic Belasco gave the Dragons some hope after hitting a three-point shot to make it 87-89 with 7 seconds left. The Dragons then fouled Al Vergara who missed his second free throw but Dragons were not able to get the rebound as they lose their third straight game.

The Dragons will travel to Bangkok next Sunday the 25^th of March 2012 as they take on the Chang Thailand Slammers at the Thai Japanese Association Gym. The Patriots will also be in action next Sunday when they play their fourth straight road game against the Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
